In our running of our recruitment company, CareerExpress, day in
day out, we receive tons of resumes. We've also worked with
multi-national companies and government bodies and we know the
trend. The trend is this:

A shorter and shorter 'Employee Life-Cycle'.

Have you heard of product life-cycle? Are you hearing this -
the employee life-cycle for the first time?

So what is the employee life-cycle about?

For those of you who started work in the 1960s and 1970s, you
would have probably experienced a lot more opportunities as an
employee. You would have probably seen your salary increase
steadily as the economy grew. And at the same time, property
prices also grew as quickly. Is it the same case nowadays?

Previously, what we see is that your salary grows steadily till
about the age of 55, the retirement age, and then likely, you
will see your salary going down. Is that true?

Nowadays, is it still the same? No. Nowadays, for most employee
positions (about 80%), at which age do salaries start to plateau off?
Salaries start to stagnate when you're in your late 30s to 40s.
Did you know that? If you didn't, it's time for you be aware.
Because in the HR (human resources) field, we talk about it -

The unofficial retirement age.

A lot of people will not tell you this. We're seeing salaries
not going up as fast and yet tapering off at about 40. Now, it's
becoming more and more possible with the KPI (key performance
indexes) and variable wages.

The scary part is this
=> People Are Losing A Large Chunk Of Their Wealth Creation.

In the past, as long as people knew how to manage their money
well, they can easily retire for the rest of their lives.
Nowadays, what happens is this - At about the age of 40, your
salary will start to plateau off and companies will start to
assess whether you are too expensive. They begin to question
whether you are technologically sound enough to catch up with
what's going on, yes?

So the challenge is this - At the age of forty, most people
would have settled down. They would have a home to pay for, some
even have children and their parents are already aging. Just when
expenses are about to go up much more, their salary starts to
stagger off. This serves as a huge impact on people's standard
of living.

A fact we want to share with you is this: In Singapore, it used
to be a lot more middle-class. Nowadays, it's either you are
rich, or you are poor. Have you observed this happening around
your life right now?

Now, we want you to ask yourself this question, especially if
you are working for other people right now:
=> If you were to continue doing what you're doing, what will
your future look like?

Earlier, we were speaking to a gentleman in his 60s. After 50,
because of his health issues, a lot of insurance companies don't
cover his medical expenses, because even though it's stated in
your policy – critical illnesses, a lot of insurance companies
don't cover many illnesses. So what happens is this. If you
seriously want to retire at the age of 50, you need at least $2
million in your bank account. Do you have $2 million to spend,?

So ask yourself, looking forward, if you were to
continue what you're doing now, what will your future look like?

Another question for you. Is there such a thing
as job security? What many entrepreneurs will share with you is this:
"The reason why I do business is because the only security I
have is what the security I create for myself. I can't depend on
other people to create my security."

We're not asking every single person to get out
of your job. Please don't get us wrong. What we're saying is
this: Is it important for you to develop a skill set – an
entrepreneurial skill set and mindset, so that at any time at
all, you can be out on your own, and you can thrive? Because we
know of many people right now, if their income source is being
cut off, there is absolutely no idea about what they can do
about it. And many people have to take a 50% pay cut – in fact
if you are a senior level and you take a 50% pay cut, you're
already considered to be very blessed.

We've also had tenants who've shifted out because their salaries
have been slashed. After working 18 years in a company, they
couldn't afford to live in the same place anymore. So,
we really want you to ask yourself this question:
=> "If I continue doing what I've always been doing, what will
my future look like?"

It takes courage to tell yourself the truth.

You can create your life exactly the way you want it.
